“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” -N. Mandela

Who We Are

Formed by a handful of caring, concerned, committed, and passionate individuals, Relief Organization for Afghan Women and Children (ROAWC) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization, registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan.

ROAWC focuses on women and children of Afghanistan because it believes that they are the most disadvantaged, and the most affected by the prolonged conflict, segment of the Afghan society. ROAWC believes that without strong and educated women and youths, and their active participation in every aspect of life, Afghanistan will remain poor, underdeveloped, foreign aid dependent, and in conflict for centuries to come.

The conflict in Afghanistan for the past four decades has affected everyone in the country while women bear the brunt of it. From social and economic deprivation to domestic violence, early marriage and motherhood to being deprived from education, Afghan women have been the victims of various forms of discrimination and violence. ROAWC works with public entities and the international community to make life better for women and enable them to stand for their rights against all social and political discriminations they face.

Children are equally affected by this unending war in the country. A significant number of Afghan children have lost their one (or both) parents to war while many others suffer from colossal poverty, lack of access to education and having to work at very young age in order to contribute to the family’s income. While young boys are victims of exploitation at their workplaces, girls are married at very young age to men much older for a higher dowry paid to the bride’s family.

Through the financial support of international aid organizations and individual donors, both inside Afghanistan and abroad, ROWAC helps Afghan children by providing them with access to an education, basic health services and safe environment to grow in.
